Constitution Update Exploration Committee Formed FIRST MEETING SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 14TH, 10a We Lutherans really get the concepts of “Law” and “Gospel”. Our mission is spread the gospel-promise to our neighbors and to ourselves, while having to navigate a world full of rules. Because of a quirk in those rules, we need to update our congregation’s constitution to align with the ELCA’s 2019 Model Constitution for Congregations. It is also an opportunity to make sure our constitution accurately describes our preferred practices and, just maybe, reflect how the Holy Spirit is inviting us to participate in God’s mission in the world. The team that has formed includes Peggy Benson, Paul Knuteson, William Schleichert, John Weingant, and Pastor Sterling. There is room for one more non-Council member to be involved. Special Congregational Meeting – April 25th, During 10a Worship The pandemic has highlighted the value of digital technology as part of evangelism and ministry in the church context. The council has begun exploring old and new ideas for using technology to improve outreach and education here at Dekorra and they want to share what they discovered with you. But, you as the congregation as the responsibility to tell them by your vote what projects they are authorized to move forward on or not. Unfortunately, timing and good discernment will not allow us to implement any of these solutions to expand our indoor worship capacity before Easter. Watch the newsletter and these announcements for more information. Quilting – Thursdays at 1p Hello Folks, You may find this useful if you are planning on worshipping indoors on Easter or any of the Sundays after during this phase of the pandemic. Below is the current set of practices and policies for safe indoor worship. The hospitality and worship teams considered early drafts, and the ushers settled on these during their March 18th meeting. These are informed by the MIT indoor safety tool I shared with you all back in February (https://indoor-covid-safety.herokuapp.com), Dekorra's inputs into that tool (see below), and the ELCA's recommendations for indoor worship. These practices sit in a nice space of not being overly restrictive and not being overly permissive. Please keep in mind, that the more permissive the practices the fewer people that can safely worship in doors. At the same time, the more restrictive the practices the less constructive indoor worship may be. As members of this community one of the most important rules in these practices we can follow is stated under the first two points under the "behaviors" section of the "standards" (near the bottom). They say this:
For their own safety and the safety of this community, our leaders will be kind while applying these practices and we simply ask the same of you. Included below are the inputs into the tool that was shared with you in the February newsletter. Below that are the current versions of the practices. If you have questions, please email me at pastorsterling@centurytel.net or call me at the office (608-635-7200). We have less than two weeks until Easter (the big event) and the return of the option for indoor wordship with limited seating (the much smaller event). I do want us to look past Lent and Holy Week, but I also want to communicate around the work we have and are doing to get ready for the return of safe indoor worship. We have organized our work around a master check list. I have included the most up to date version of it below. I will offer further updates next week as the work we can only finish the week-of gets done. Some notes:
