OUR STEWARDSHIP OF WORSHIP AND GIFTS
Weekly View From Da Pews
July 30, 2021 “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give” Winston Churchill Ahhh Yes! The practice of giving of our time, our talents and YES our finances. Ladies and gentleman, another month has gone by and again we have not taken in enough donations to offset our expenses. This is in spite of the fact that we are now fully using the sanctuary and our attendance is up from when we were just outside. I humbly ask, “WHAT’s UP!” I know it is summertime and I know a lot of you are spending time away, enjoying family and friends in far off places. However your church does not go on vacation! We are here 24/7 and with that we need to pay the bills for a 24/7 operation. This last week alone we had to pay bills of over $9000 and at that rate we will soon deplete the surplus that you build up during the shutdown. As the old saying goes, “It’s time to dig a little deeper in the well”. This week the work at the Habitat build site is full speed ahead. The lot is back filled, the cement has been poured and the lumber has been delivered. Time to start pounding nails. This week we are working Thursday thru Saturday putting down the floor deck. Next week we will need a good sized crew to help load the prebuilt walls at the Prairie ware house, and then unload them at the build site. We will meet on Wednesday morning, 9am, at the Prairie warehouse, 9th St. just south off Cth PF. Give me a call if you can help, all are welcome. Remember the church picnic on August 22nd right after church. It is a dish to pass type gathering. The brats and hot dogs will be provided. There will be a special musical presentation, lots of good food and plenty of good fellowship. Send me an email letting me know you are coming so that I have enough brats on hand. I just checked with Able Trek Tours and they have space on the bus for 6 more people. This is the Habitat fund raising tour to Historic Galena and then a tour of the Potosi Brewing Company and dinner. The cost is $119@ with about half of that being a donation to Habitat. You can sign up by calling (800)205-6713. The Lutheran Men in Mission, “One Year Too Live” retreat at the Mackenzie Center is still taking applications. Call me for details. I will also attached the brochure to this message. I think we owe the Dekorra Youth and also the Youth and Family committee a big “ATTA BOY/GIRL” for all their hard work this past Saturday. The brat stand in Lodi was a big success and it generated not only revenue for their trip but also good press and public relations for Dekorra. Also a big thank you to Lodi Meat Market for all their help and support. Next time you are in their store be sure to thank them. Just a reminder the youth will be doing the brat stand again on August 07th. This Sunday, I will be worship Asst, Bill Buckley will be the reader, Sara Simplot will be Communion Asst, Rose and Bev will be greeters, Ben and Paul will be inside ushers and Bob and Larry will be outside ushers. Hope to see you all on Sunday. This coming Monday, August 02nd there will be a Red Cross blood drive at Dekorra sponsored by the Lake Wisconsin Lions Club. The time is 1pm until 6 pm. If you have a pint to spare, please stop in and donate. Mike Keller will be serving his world renowned chili and other treats. William, a Disciple of Christ Christianity, in its purest form, is nothing more than seeing Jesus. Christian service, in its purest form, is nothing more than imitating Him who we see. To see His Majesty and to imitate Him, that is the sum of Christianity! williamaschleichert@gmail.com 608-697-4434(c)

Our previous event raised $589 and an anonymous donor has pledged to match that! Wow, God is good! Thank you so much. It will take a little over $1,000 to send each youth and leader to this excellent faith formation event. Again, thank you for your support. About a month ago Pastor sterling had the opportunity to chat with a friend of his, Edward Foster-Graham, on his podcast "Jesus Talks". He started the conversation with reading 2 Timothy 2:15 ("Make an effort to present yourself to God as a tried-and-true worker, who doesn’t need to be ashamed but is one who interprets the message of truth correctly."), and then they branched out from there. You can tell that Sterling had John (the Gospel) on my mind. 🙂
Check it out if podcast or radio interviews are your thing. It's about an hour long. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0ZBhMcxXEzGSN6FHDsAmhI?fbclid=IwAR0SDLbi2eZT0xPM_j5g7Xyr5KICm-0sP3ydcnVi-DO59IEeq3pWy-K6-JM

OUR STEWARDSHIP OF WORSHIP AND GIFTS
2022 ELCA Youth Gathering Overview
Every three years, 30,000 high school youth and adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. The Gathering operates multiple programs over five days together. To ensure that each participant has an opportunity to fully participate, we rotate groups through programs. Interactive Learning is a space for participants to engage and be immersed in the life and breadth of the church, the community of God. Through a variety of mediums, participants will engage in learning opportunities that support the mission of the Gathering and its theme, and that lift up partner organizations or groups, all in the Minneapolis Convention Center. Synod Day is when you will gather with congregations in your geographic area for worship, conversation, communion, music and learning about how boundless our God really is. In the past, Synod Day was held in hotel ballrooms; however, for this cycle we are excited to be hosted by local congregations. Participants will be transported with their synods to their host congregation for this program day. Service Learning is an opportunity to take part in the Twin Cities’ great story and live out our Lutheran faith by being God’s hands and feet in the community. Participants will work alongside our neighbors in the Twin Cities and share meaningful conversations with them. Participants will be transported to their Service Learning site that morning. Mass Gathering is a time for all participants to gather and experience church at U.S. Bank Stadium. This provides a unique experience for participants to come together to sing, dance, pray, learn, and ponder their faith. Everyone will come together for worship, blessings and safe travels as well as an opportunity to share communion with 30,000 other people. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, groups rotate through Interactive Learning, Service Learning, and Synod Day. We will end each evening together at our Mass Gathering in U.S. Bank Stadium. Below is a tentative schedule for the 2022 Gathering. It will be updated as more information is available.
8 p.m.-9:45 p.m. — Mass Gathering Evening — Final 15
10 a.m.-5 p.m. — Interactive Learning and Bible study 11 a.m.-3 p.m. — Synod Day 6 p.m. — Doors open for Mass Gathering 8 p.m.-9:45 p.m. — Mass Gathering Evening — Final 15
9:30-11:30 a.m. — Closing Worship ![]() Every three years, 30,000 youth entering 8th-12th grades and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA National Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service, and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. The next youth gathering is July 2022 in Minneapolis, MN. The theme is “Boundless – God Beyond Measure”. The Youth and Family Committee is energized to make this opportunity available to Dekorra’s youth and we already have a core of families committed. We are still recruiting youth and leaders to join this formative adventure. Our first fundraiser will be on July 24th at the Lodi Meat Market (150 S Main St in Lodi, WI). It will run from 10am - 1pm! Volunteers and participants for this ministry will be selling grilled brats, chips, drinks and other goodies with the proceeds being donated to the cost of sending youth and leaders to this event.
