UPCOMING AT DEKORRA

Easter Nursing Home Card Shower – Due March 28th
The Youth and Family Committee is asking you folks at Dekorra to create Easter cards for folks who are homebound or are otherwise isolated. Please address your cards to “Dear Friend” and include a nice message for the season. Please drop off cards by the end of worship on March 28th and the committee will distribute them. Question call the Simplots at 592-5167. Thank you!

Lent and Holy Week – Starting February 17th
LENTEN SEASON IS HERE
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent each year and historically was time connected to Passover, of fasting, examination and setting aside time. This year we are partnering with area ELCA and ecumenical congregations to offer Lenten prayer, messages and devotions online. You can typically find these services in the evenings by following the link on our website or on our Facebook page.

  • Online Lenten Services, Wednesdays, Feb 17th- Mar 31st
  • Online Maundy, Thursday, Apr 1st
  • Online Good Friday, Friday, Apr 2nd

Easter Worship – April 4th, 8am and 10am
LIMITED INDOOR, PARKING LOT, ONLINE
You read that right. We will have limited indoor seating in the sanctuary available starting on Easter on a first-come-first-seated basis. We will keep recording that service to be posted online later on Sunday, as well as continuing parking lot. More details to come.

Limited Indoor Sunday Worship Begins Again
LIMITED INDOOR, PARKING LOT, ONLINE
After Easter will continue to have limited seating in the sanctuary at 10am Sunday worship for this season of the pandemic. We hope and expect to be able to expand that capacity as vaccination progresses and infection rates improve.

New Member Orientation – April 18th, 11am to 1pm
WANT TO BE AN OFFICIAL PART OF THIS COMMUNITY? JOIN US IN THIS GATHERING PLACE!
Thinking about becoming a member of Dekorra? If you or anyone you know is interested, please come our New Member Orientation Gathering with New Member Recognition currently scheduled for April 25th at worship. Questions? Please contact Pastor Sterling in the church office.

Special Congregational Meeting – April 25th, During 10am Worship
The pandemic has highlighted the value of digital technology as part of evangelism and ministry in the church context. The council has begun exploring old and new ideas for using technology to improve outreach and education here at Dekorra and they want to share what they discovered with you. But, you as the congregation as the responsibility to tell them by your vote what projects they are authorized to move forward on or not. Unfortunately, timing and good discernment will not allow us to implement any of these solutions to expand our indoor worship capacity before Easter. Watch the newsletter and these announcements for more information.

Constitution Update Exploration Committee Forming
We Lutheran really get the concepts of “Law” and “Gospel”. Our mission is spread the gospel-promise to our neighbors and to ourselves, while having to navigate a world full of rules. Because of a quirk in those rules, we need to update our congregation’s constitution to align with the ELCA’s 2019 Model Constitution for Congregations. It is also an opportunity to make sure our constitution accurately describes our preferred practices and, just maybe, reflect how the Holy Spirit is inviting us to participate in God’s mission in the world.

The start of that process is forming a team. A group of council members have volunteered to do that work but we could use one or two non-council members join us. Since we are simply aligning with the model constitution, we hope that this is not a long or painful process, and that there will be a constitution to be adopted by our next annual meeting. Please contact Pastor Sterling at the office if you have any questions or interested in being involved.
